סמ״ר עמית בונצל, לוחם ומפקד בסיירת צנחנים. חגג את יום הולדתו ה- 22 בעזה שבועיים לפני נפילתו.
גדל בשהם למשפחה עם עוד אח ואחות. למד בישיבה תיכונית בפ”ת ולאחר מכן במכינה קד”צ בקשת.
היה בחור חברותי, שמח, אוהב העם והארץ, תמיד חיפש לעשות טוב, לראות איפה הוא יכול להועיל, לעזור לאנשים ולהתנדב.
כיבד את ההורים שלו מאוד מאוד, היה רגיש אליהם וחשב תמיד איך לשמח אותם (האחים שלו תמיד אמרו לו שהוא מציב להם רף שאי אפשר לעמוד בו, שהוא ילד טוב מידי)
עמית רצה להתקבל ליחידה הכי מובחרת בצה״ל ומגיל 16 התאמן בשביל להתקבל. היה נוסע לדיונות בלילות עם אבא שלו כי היה חדור מטרה ולבסוף קיבל גיבוש מטכל. סיים ועבר בהצלחה גיבוש לסיירת מטכל אך בשלבים המתקדמים הוא נפל והגיע לסיירת צנחנים והוא אמר שזה היה המקום שלו.
אחד הדברים שהכי אפיינו את עמית היה אהבת הארץ ודבקות במטרה..
בחדרו היה תלוי דגל ישראל גדול ועל הדלת משפט שכתב שאפיין את אישיותו: ״הרבה אנשים אומרים שהם רוצים להצליח אבל לא כולם מוכנים לשלם את המחיר שצריך כדי להצליח.
לפני הכניסה לעזה עמית חתם על כרטיס אדי ואמר לאביו שאם הוא ימות שיצליחו להציל ממנו כמה שיותר חיים.
גם במותו עמית הציל חיים.

Staff Sergeant Amit Bunzel, 22 years old. Killed in military action in the Gaza Strip on December 6, 2023. A fighter and crew commander in a paratrooper patrol. He commanded 28 soldiers. As a young man, he dreamed of joining the commando unit in the IDF. He was killed 2 weeks before he was to start an officers’ course. He loved the state of Israel and believed it was important to protect his country. His motto in life was: “many people say they want to succeed, but not everyone pays the price needed to succeed.”
Staff Sergeant Amit Bunzel, fighter and crew commander in a paratrooper patrol. He celebrated his 22nd birthday in Gaza two weeks before his fall. Amit was raised in Shoham with his family, including two brothers. He studied at Yeshivat Amit Kfar Ganim in Petah Tikva and then at Keshet KDC Preparatory School.
Amit was a sociable, happy guy. He loved the people and the country. He was always looking to do good, seeing where he could be useful, helpful, and volunteer. He respected his parents very much, was sensitive to them, and always thought of how to make them happy (his brothers always told him that he set a bar for them that cannot be met, that he was too good of a boy).
Amit wanted to be accepted into the most elite unit in the IDF, and from the age of 16, he trained to be accepted. He used to go to the dunes at night with his father because he had a purpose. He finished and successfully went through training for a higher patrol, but in the advanced stages, he fell and got into a paratrooper patrol, and he said it was his place.
One of the things that made Amit the most was his love of the country and adherence to the goal..In his room hung a large Israeli flag and on the door a sentence he wrote that characterized his personality: “Many people say they want to succeed, but not everyone is willing to pay the price needed to succeed.”
Before entering Gaza, Amit signed a card and told his father that if he died, they would be able to save as many lives as possible. Even in his death, Amit saved a life: Amit’s organs were donated and saved lives.
Before his death, Amit told his friends that he aspired to live a meaningful life and not a life of wasting time.
