אדיר היה לוחם אמיתי, אמיץ, חזק, מתוחכם ואדיב. אדיר חזר במיוחד מדרום אמריקה, ללא צו גיוס, כדי להצטרף לחבריו וללחום למען המדינה. חיוכו חרוט בזיכרוננו לעד.

אדיר שירת 5 שנים כקצין קרבי בבריגדת גולני. בתחילת שירותו היה בסיירת גולני, היחידה המיוחדת של הבריגדה. מאוחר יותר, הוא עבר קורס קצינים, פיקד על החיילים בגדוד שקד, והכשיר את הקצינים העתידיים של הבריגדה. הוא שוחרר באוגוסט 2023.
לאחר שחרורו, הוא טס לדרום אמריקה עם חברתו, דניאל. בשביעי באוקטובר, כאשר פרצה המלחמה, הוא רצה לחזור מיד לישראל, במיוחד לאחר ששמע על הריגתו של בן ברונשטיין, מפקדו בעבודתו האחרונה בצבא, בקרבות בהתיישבויות. בתוך כמה ימים, הוא עלה על טיסת חילוץ שהמריאה מפרו לישראל, וכשהגיע, הוא התגייס למילואים, אף על פי שלא קיבל צו גיוס. אדיר נלחם במהלך כל המבצע ברצועת עזה, עד שנפל בגבורה בקרב.
התחביב העיקרי של אדיר היה קרבות מבצעיים. הוא אהב פעילות מבצעית. כאשר הוצב לתפקיד מפקד צוות בקורס קצינים, שהוא לא תפקיד מבצעי, הוא היה מאוד מוטרד וביקש לשנות את המינוי. המפקד שלו אמר לו – "אדיר, זה בדיוק מה שאני צריך. אני צריך אותך כדי להנחיל את רוח הלחימה שלך בלוחמי הקצינים החדשים".
בנוסף, אדיר אהב לשחק כדורגל. בילדותו שיחק כדורגל מקצועי, ומאוחר יותר שיחק עם חברים. הוא היה ספורטאי מצטיין.

Adir was a true warrior, brave, strong, sophisticated and kind. Adir returned especially from South America, without draft order, to join his friends and fight for the country. His smile is etched in our memories forever.
Captain Adir Portugal, 23 years old, fell in an encounter with terrorists in the Jabaliya neighborhood located in the north of the Gaza Strip on November 19, 2023. He was supposed to celebrate his 24th birthday next week 😞
Adir served 5 years as a combat officer in the Givati Brigade. At the beginning of his service, he was in the Sayeret Givati, the special unit of the brigade. Later, he went to an officers’ course, commanded the soldiers in the Shaked Battalion, and trained the future officers of the brigade. He was released in August 2023.
After his release, he flew to South America with his girlfriend, Daniel. On the seventh of October, when the war broke out, he wanted to return to Israel immediately, especially after he heard that Ben Bronstein, his commander in his last job in the army, was killed in the battles in the settlements.
Within a few days, he boarded a rescue flight that left Peru for Israel, and as soon as he arrived, he enlisted in the reserves, even though he did not receive a draft order. Adir fought bravely throughout the entire operation in the Gaza Strip, until he heroically fell in battle.
Adir’s main hobby was fighting. He loved operational activity. When he was assigned to the position of team commander in the officers’ course, which is not an operational position, he was very upset, and asked to change the assignment. His commander told him – “Adir, this is exactly what I need. I need you to instill your fighting spirit in the new officer warriors”.
In addition, Adir loved to play soccer. As a child, he played professional soccer, and later played with friends. He was an outstanding athlete and sportsman.
